A total of 45,977 images delivered the Peruvian satellite system PeruSAT-1 to various public institutions free of charge, representing a savings for the state of 830 million soles between March 2017 and the first week of November 2019.
This was reported by the head of the Peruvian Space Agency, Major General FAP Javier Tuesta Márquez, during the inauguration of the III Workshop PeruSAT-1: Lessons Learned-2019, organized in the context of the third anniversary of the launch of the first Peruvian satellite observation of Earth.
Defense Minister Walter Martos Ruiz, who opened the event, said that in the three years of commissioning Peru SAT-1, much experience has been gained in relation to satellite imagery in the country.
He said a number of projects are being carried out nationally and internationally that will allow him to continue providing services to the benefit of different sectors linked to the nation’s development.
At the meeting, he said, experiences will be received from the point of view of the national and international scientific community, users and system operators.
Benefit
Regarding the satellite images delivered to state institutions, Tuesta stated that, in economic terms, the Peruvian state, with these images received, has saved more than 830 million soles to date.
French Ambassador to Peru, Antoine Grassin, attended the inauguration; FAP Commander General, Air General Rodolfo García Esquerre; and Deputy Minister of Defense Resources Javier Ramírez Guillén
After the ceremony, Minister Martos visited the CNOIS premises, from which PeruSAT-1 satellite operates.
The III Workshop was attended by eight foreign delegations of space agencies and institutions in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, South Korea, France, Paraguay and Taiwan.
The Peruvian satellite was put into orbit on September 15, 2016 and has been operating by national engineers since December 7 of that year, when its absolute control was handed over to the Peruvian Space Agency.
