Google has announced the completion of the construction of its private submarine cable. Named Curie, the project is the third announced by the company, and connects the United States and Chile at 10,500 kilometers, providing 72 Tbps capacity from the second half of 2020.
In announcing that the project was ready, Google also took the opportunity to tell that Curie will win a subsidiary in Panama. “Once operational, this branch will increase bandwidth and connectivity for Central America,” said the company, which promises to improve its ability to connect with other networks in the region.
At the Panama branch, once again there will be Google’s partnership with SubCom, the engineering company responsible for producing some of the cables. Two more private cables are still under development, one connecting the United States to Europe and another Portugal to South Africa.
